<image:caption>With this QTH being so remote, the early days of the W2/Summit build were nothing short of grueling. Towers had to be installed several hundrend feet from the home, which meant digging and pouring concrete by hand—no machinery, no shortcuts. Looking back 15 years later, at the age of 45, Ray W2RE was fit, strong, and relentless. At the time, it barely registered as a challenge. But today? He laughs and admits he would have built a proper road to the towers first. Some lessons, it seems, only come with time—and a little extra sweat.</image:caption>

<image:caption>The ultimate mountaintop Ham Radio location. Perched at the very top of a ridge, with a private road winding up to the site and literally no neighbors for miles, W2/Summit is the definition of a dream Ham Radio QTH. Locations like this are rare; it took years of searching to find a spot with the perfect combination of elevation, low noise, and unobstructed views. Once discovered, the potential is extraordinary. From this ridge, antennas rise into the sky, capturing signals that would be impossible from a standard home QTH. DX contacts travel farther, propagation is cleaner, and operating from this remote Ham Radio superstation is an experience unlike any other. It’s a location that proves the power of combining Ham Radio passion with real estate strategy: owning prime RF real estate lets you maximize performance, create a legacy station, and even open opportunities for remote operation. For those who stumble across a site like this, the rewards are endless—and once you’ve operated from the summit, you’ll understand why some say it’s the ultimate mountaintop Ham Radio QTH.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Some of the world’s top DX’ers and contesters have visited W2/Summit, but thanks to innovation, these operators—and many more—don’t even have to set foot on the mountaintop. Through www.RemoteHamRadio.com can access the superstation remotely, experiencing its world-class propagation from anywhere on the globe. As seen in 2014, Nicky EI9JF, Adrian KO8SCA, and Lee WW2DX—my partner in RemoteHamRadio—took in the breathtaking W2/Summit QTH in the Catskills. From towering antennas to panoramic mountain views, this is a testament to what happens when Ham Radio innovation meets a prime QTH, making remote operation and contesting accessible like never before.</image:caption>

<image:caption>The Hat Isn’t Just a Hat—It’s a Brand! HamRadio 24-7 isn’t just what Ray does—it’s who he is. That worn-in, sweat-stained hat? That’s authenticity in action. People can sense fake branding a mile away, but this hat tells a story: Ray lives and breathes Ham Radio, 24/7. Branding yourself isn’t about perfection—it’s about showing who you really are. The sweat, the wear, the real-life moments make a brand relatable, memorable, and trusted. When you brand yourself authentically, you don’t just stand out—you connect. The lesson: Don’t just create a logo—live your brand. The world will notice, and people will remember YOU.</image:caption>

<image:caption>I bet you guessed—I’m W2RE. That’s the power of branding! When you type “W2RE” into Google, my entire story unfolds: ham radio, towers, RemoteHamRadio, and HamRadio 24-7. One call sign. One brand. One identity that speaks louder than words. And judging by this photo, you already know—I must have something to do with towers, right? ️ But here’s the real question… do you know the story behind the towers?</image:caption>

<image:caption>A great brand doesn’t need to be complicated—sometimes the most effective names are the simplest. A simple brand name is easy to remember, easy to share, and instantly recognizable. It sticks in people’s minds because it cuts through the noise without confusion. The best part? Simplicity builds trust and authority faster than any flashy gimmick ever could.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Don’t Be Afraid to Explore New Platforms! Ray was hesitant to try TikTok at first—but within three months of posting authentic content, his following grew from 0 to 5,000. Being real, showing your passion, and connecting with people works—no gimmicks required. The media landscape is massive, and Ray’s brand has grown so much across multiple platforms that he now has a full-time media professional helping expand the reach even further. The takeaway: Branding isn’t just about showing up—it’s about showing up consistently, authentically, and where your audience is. Explore new platforms, be yourself, and watch your brand grow!</image:caption>

<image:caption>Branding isn’t just about a logo or a name—it’s about moments that define who you are and what you stand for. One of those signature moments for me was standing with my tower crew in front of the iconic ARRL Headquarters in Newington, CT after completing tower work. That image wasn’t just a photo—it was a statement. It told the ham radio world exactly what my brand represents: innovation, teamwork, and a passion for building the future of radio. The visual was powerful, the message was clear, and the branding was unforgettable. The only question left is—what’s the next signature moment?</image:caption>

<image:caption>Here’s another signature moment that speaks to the heart of our brand. At Dayton, the Bouvet 3Y0J team presented the RHR team with an award and even a rock from Bouvet Island—the most remote location on Earth. Why? Because we believed in their mission and supported their cause. Giving back isn’t just about writing a check—it’s about creating lasting memories, building community, and leaving a legacy that goes beyond ourselves. This photo of the RHR team standing proudly with members of the 3Y0J expedition captures the essence of collaboration and impact. When you invest in others, you’re not just helping a project—you’re shaping the future of ham radio. That’s the power of branding—every moment tells your story. Want to know how to build a brand that speaks louder than words? Stay tuned.</image:caption>

<image:caption>A Look at a Mega Ham Radio Tower in Jonesport, ME One example that demonstrates what’s possible in ham radio tower engineering is a site the author owns in Jonesport, Maine. Standing at an impressive 180 feet, this rotating tower carries an extraordinary 96-element antenna array—one of the largest systems you can install in amateur radio. This powerhouse setup covers multiple bands, including 10 meters, 15 meters, 20 meters, 40 meters, and 6 meters, delivering world-class performance for contesting and DXing. And that’s just one structure—this station features a total of five radio towers, making it one of the most capable ham radio sites in the region. A system of this scale is far beyond what most operators will ever need, but it highlights how careful planning, engineering, and investment can take a ham radio station from modest to truly world-class.</image:caption>

<image:caption>A Tubular Crank-Up Tower One example from the author’s experience is a tubular crank-up tower equipped with GXP antennas, installed alongside fellow ham Bobby KC2UPN. This type of tower provides the flexibility to raise and lower antennas safely for maintenance or upgrades, making it ideal for high-performance HF operations. However, building and maintaining a structure of this scale is quite expensive. Between the tower itself, the antennas, rotators, and ongoing upkeep, costs can add up quickly. This example highlights the level of investment required for serious amateur radio operators who want reliable, long-term performance and the ability to operate at the highest level.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Bracketed Lattice Towers: Compact and Reliable Ham Radio Solutions For hams with limited space or who prefer a minimal-footprint installation, house-bracketed lattice towers are a popular choice. Models like the Rohn 25G and 45G offer a sturdy, guy-free solution that mounts directly to a building. Key features include: No Guys Needed – These towers don’t require additional guy wires, making them ideal for smaller properties. Height Above Bracket – The 25G extends up to 10-20 feet above the bracket, while the 45G can reach 20-30 feet, providing good elevation for HF antennas. Bracket Installation – Brackets should be mounted at least 12 feet above a concrete base and can be either bolted through or lagged for secure attachment. Antenna Capacity – Suitable for most average tri-band beams, but not recommended for large antennas or stacked arrays. Bracketed lattice towers are an excellent option for operators seeking a compact, reliable ham radio antenna tower that delivers good performance without the complexity or cost of larger structures.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Here’s the author with his son, pouring a foundation in New York. For this project, we specifically formed the hole with a rebar cage—it’s designed to support a rotating tower base. While some situations call for forming the base, most of the time it’s best to pour directly against undisturbed soil. Always start with at least a 6" gravel bed and make sure to build a strong rebar cage for maximum stability.</image:caption>

<image:caption>The Beginning – The Day We Dig It’s early July 2025. The morning sun casts a golden glow over the site, and you can feel the excitement in the air. In this photo, we stand at the very start of something huge — the day we dig. Every shovel in the dirt, every line drawn on paper, every plan coming to life is a step toward a vision that’s about to become reality. This is where it all begins. Here I am (Ray W2RE) going over plan with locals to start digging.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Stacking 14 sections with a gin-pole is no small feat – especially when you’re working with Rohn 55. Every lift, every alignment, every bolt takes focus and precision. ⚡ But here’s the thing: we’ve done this more than most. Years of experience and countless towers later, we’ve developed a routine that turns a huge challenge into smooth execution. ️ It’s a mix of skill, teamwork, and a little bit of muscle – and seeing each section rise higher is a reminder of why we love what we do. From the ground to the sky, step by step, the vision becomes reality.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - DX Launcher: The Must-Have Tool for Every Ham Radio Operator - Make it stand out</image:title>
<image:caption>Dan, WA1QZX from Rhode Island, purchased a DX Launcher at the HamX convention in August. His very first antenna installation using the launcher was a success! He was kind enough to share his feedback with us in his own words, and I couldn’t resist passing it along. “I used my new DX launcher to put up wire antennas from my new remote station in Charlestown, RI. The launcher worked perfectly. First shot at 55 psi , got the line over a nice branch at 90 ft. Also, the tennis balls are weighted just right so they come down to the ground very nicely. You can adjust the launch power for distance / height above ground by experimenting with psi pressure. Aiming about 10-15 above desired target works good depending upon how far away you are and how many feet above ground your going for. This is the best launcher I have used. Bonus is you reel the launch line back in using drill attachment. I really had fun this weekend launching lines. It was a real pleasure using such a well designed and constructed launcher such as this. Thank You! Dan de WA1QZX.”</image:caption>

<image:caption>A lot of hams spend hours in their basements, but I’d bet most aren’t squatting a barbell down there. Mine’s different. Right next to the radio gear is a fully functional gym. Free weights. Pull-up bar. Rack. Bench. The essentials. It’s where I train during the tower off-season—because when I’m not climbing, I’m lifting. I’m 59 years old. I may not have the explosive power I had in my 30s, but I’m strong, mobile, and healthy. I can still climb towers and haul gear like it’s nothing. Let me be clear: I didn’t take a magic pill. I’m not on any pill. No statins. No blood pressure meds. No diabetes meds. I was on that path, but I stopped it cold.</image:caption>

<image:caption>This Is Me at 59—No Excuses, Just Work This past winter, while most folks were bundled up, glued to their radios, or glued to the couch—I was in my basement gym, lifting. At 59 years old, I’m not slowing down. I’m strong. I’m healthy. I’ve got real muscle on my frame, and it’s not just for show. Muscle mass is the #1 overlooked key to longevity. It’s not just about looking good—it’s about staying alive.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Breaking the Fast—With Sardines (Yeah, Seriously) When I break my fast, I keep it simple—and I keep it smart. If I’m home, I’ll crack open a can of sardines. Yeah, those little fish that most people won’t touch. But let me tell you—they’re a powerhouse. Packed with protein, healthy fats, and zero garbage ingredients. My favorite? King Oscar sardines in olive oil with jalapeños. Spicy, clean, and straight fuel for the body. No carbs, no blood sugar spike—just pure nutrition. Don’t like sardines? That’s fine. Any solid protein source will do—eggs, tuna, leftover steak, grilled chicken, whatever works. But stop thinking you need something fancy. You don’t. You just need real food. You’re not a kid anymore. You don’t need pancakes with syrup to start the day. You need strength. You need focus. And you need to fuel your body like you actually want it to last. This isn’t about dieting—it’s about eating with purpose.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Ham Radio Isn’t Just for Fat Guys in Basements - Legs: The Foundation of Everything</image:title>
<image:caption>Now let’s talk legs. Your legs are your base. They carry you through life, every step, every lift, every moment of movement. Strong legs aren’t just about squats and deadlifts—they’re about building a foundation that supports everything else: strength, balance, posture, and even heart health. A solid leg workout isn’t optional—it’s essential. So the next time leg day rolls around, don’t skip it. Embrace it. Respect the foundation. These Are My Legs at 59 — Soon to Be 60! Chiseled like stone. This isn’t luck, its not genes—it’s work, consistency, and never making excuses. These legs are why I can still climb, hike, move, and keep up with people half my age. Age is just a number when your foundation is strong. Don’t let anyone tell you it’s too late to build strength. It’s never too late to start. Respect your body. Train your legs. They’ll carry you farther than you think.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Ham Radio Isn’t Just for Fat Guys in Basements - SweatCoin App</image:title>
<image:caption>Track Your Steps — Your Future Self Will Thank You I use an app called Sweatcoin—it turns my steps into cryptocurrency. That’s right, I literally earn while I walk. Here's a snapshot of my past 8 days using the app. If you notice, I hit 10,075 steps today. Why? Because at 5:30 AM, while most people are still asleep, I’m out there walking. It’s part of who I am now. Walking isn’t just about fitness. It’s what keeps me off medication. It sharpens my brain. It gives me clarity. Honestly, it’s become such a habit that I sometimes drive my wife crazy—walking around the house late at night just to hit that 10K mark. Yeah, it’s an obsession… but one I’ll never apologize for. Here’s the truth: Start walking 10,000 steps a day, and your body will thank you. Your mind will thank you. Your doctor might even be shocked. Get obsessed with movement. You’ve got everything to gain—literally. Ever wonder why you see people walking in your neighborhood every single day? They know the secret. And now, so do you. It’s right in front of you. Get started. Stay consistent. And watch your health transform.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Ham Radio Isn’t Just for Fat Guys in Basements - Poland Spring Water</image:title>
<image:caption>Stay Hydrated — It’s Non-Negotiable We don’t just drink any water—we get high-quality water delivered, just like our meat and fish. Why? Because what we put in our bodies matters. It’s not cheap, but your health is worth the investment. This is a shot of our kitchen—we go through two big jugs a week, and it’s just my wife and me. That’s how serious we are about hydration. She’s on the same game plan—high protein, low carb—and she’s already dropped 50 pounds by staying consistent with it. It’s not about magic. It’s about habits. Clean food. Clean water. And daily movement. Hydration isn’t optional. Your brain needs it. Your muscles need it. Your energy depends on it. If you want to feel better, think clearer, and move stronger—start with water.</image:caption>

You’re looking inside the Jonesport station, home to five dedicated operating positions, each connected to world-class antenna systems — the kind rarely seen in ham radio. This is serious DX territory. But don’t worry — it’s not all “big gun” gear. We also have small pistol stations designed for budget-conscious operators who still want premium performance. <image:caption>⚡️ Down Comes the TH3 — Safety First! Before we could raise the new GXP 5B-3L, we had one big job to tackle: taking down the old HyGain TH3. Luckily, it wasn’t too difficult—but we weren’t taking any chances. ‍♂️ The biggest concern? The power lines running dangerously close to the corner of the house. One slip, one wrong move… and we’d be in serious trouble. ⚠️⚡️ So we played it smart. Threw a huge, thick blanket over the lines—just in case anything went sideways. We weren’t about to let a rogue boom or loose element turn this into a shocking experience. It’s always about respecting the hazards and having a plan. With the TH3 safely down, the stage is now set for the GXP build to take center stage!</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - The Story Behind THE ARRL W1HQ Install - The Iconic Orange Tubes</image:title>
<image:caption>And just like that—it began. After the GXP arrived in its iconic orange tube and box, we hit the ground running. On April 28th, the build for the W1HQ GXP 30/40 was officially underway, leading up to a May 6th install. Now here’s the twist… I had to keep it under wraps. If word got out that we were heading to ARRL HQ, it would've turned into a full-on spectacle—and the last thing we needed was hundreds of hams watching us work! Sometimes, stealth mode is the only way to get it done right.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - The Story Behind THE ARRL W1HQ Install - Here it is—the GXP 30/40 coming to life right here in New York. ️ What many don’t realize is… we build these in-house—every bracket, every bolt. Then we break it all down to fit snugly into our 16-foot trailer for transport. The material from GXP? Next level. Take a close look at the photo—those element-to-boom brackets are seriously well engineered. And that vertical pipe? It’s the strut for the 40M element, locking everything into place with rock-solid stability. We don’t just install—we build with purpose.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - The Story Behind THE ARRL W1HQ Install - Antennas loaded. Rigging gear packed.</image:title>
<image:caption>We’re officially ready to roll—80 miles to Newington, CT, where the next stop is ARRL Headquarters—the mecca of Ham Radio, where the heart of the hobby beats loud and clear. In the back? Our 16-foot trailer, loaded with the GXP 30/40 and everything we need to get the job done right. We've been transporting antennas like this for over a decade—from W1/Jonesport to countless MEGA sites—this trailer has seen it all. But this isn’t just another job—it’s ARRL, and we’re here to do it professionally, safely, and on time.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Blog - The Story Behind THE ARRL W1HQ Install - 6AM on May 13th! Lets roll!</image:title>
<image:caption>And just like that, May 13th was here. Bobby and I departed New York, while Nik hit the road from New Hampshire at 5:00 AM, all converging at ARRL Headquarters by 8:00 AM. The mission: to erect the GXP 30/40 atop the W1HQ tower—a precision install at the heart of amateur radio. A coordinated effort, a tight schedule, and a shared commitment to doing it right.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - The Story Behind THE ARRL W1HQ Install - Our Staging Area at ARRL</image:title>
<image:caption>Here’s our staging area—HVT trailer in position, and the GXP 30/40 fully built and ready to go. You’ll notice we’re working right on the blacktop... and let me tell you, if we had to build this from scratch here? It would’ve been a full day of sweating it out on the asphalt. ☀️ Luckily, we came prepared. The entire setup was pre-built, precision-packed, and ready for action—saving us time, sweat, and a whole lot of gatorade.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Greg the ARRL Photographer Funny thing about working at ARRL HQ— you'd think with a building full of hams, we’d draw a crowd while rigging gear and setting up the GXP 30/40 on the rooftop. But nope—just a handful ventured out to see what the “crazy guys” were doing out there. Joe NJ1Q checked in with us early on—always a pro—but he was swamped hosting W1AW guests. It’s a packed week at HQ, especially with Dayton Hamvention right around the corner. Just the day before, he had a crew visiting all the way from Brazil. But one standout visitor? Greg, the new media photographer for ARRL. Super friendly, great energy, and awesome to chat with.</image:caption>

<image:caption>️ On the Rooftop with a Legend Up on the roof with Joe NQ1J, station manager of W1AW and a true fixture at the ARRL for over three decades. Joe’s not just a seasoned pro—he’s also one of the kindest and most down-to-earth guys you’ll meet in this hobby. Throughout this project, Joe was my go-to. He gave us the space to do what we do best, trusted the process, and made sure everything stayed on track. That kind of support makes a huge difference. And when the install was complete, before anything got hooked to the switch—you’ll notice the SWR analyzer in my hand—we swept the antennas to make sure everything was great.</image:caption>
